2016 CCA Commencement Exhibition
The project Flags Become Flag is dedicated to my wonderful advisor during my Master's Degree, Ted Purves. He gave me, amongst many things, the name of this piece.
This project aimed at finding a series of colors that were "universal" and somehow, in this nothingness, became "unaccented". At Fantastico, the San Francisco party store, I bought the plastic pennants. In my studio I then assembled rectangles out of the triangles, I then cut them and assembled them and cut them again, going from flag to pixel.
For the exhibition the Flag was accompanied by two different works on paper: one, a found poem, the other a found action.
The flag and how it was constructed are exactly the opposite steps with which a flag is meant to be retired.
This is a project aiming to disorient symbols in a multiplicity of ways.
